It is a privilege and honor to serve Christ alongside the congregation of Faith Church Sunshine Coast. Our journey has been one of deep faith and unwavering commitment to the truth of God’s Word, and I am continually encouraged by the boldness, courage, and faithfulness of this congregation.
Despite the dissolution of our church by the Uniting Church in Australia (March 28, 2023) and the loss of our place of worship, we have remained steadfast in our calling. We have experienced first-hand what it means to trust in God’s provision, knowing that He alone is our refuge and strength.
My own journey in ministry has been shaped by both joy and trials. After nearly 22 years of ministry in the UCA, my recognition as a Uniting Church minister was formally removed by the Queensland Synod Standing Committee on October 14, 2022. One month later, on November 14, 2022, my placement at Mooloolaba Christian Church was officially terminated. While this was a difficult period, it was also a time of spiritual renewal, reaffirming my calling to stand firm in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, no matter the cost.
Through God’s grace, our congregation was not only preserved but reborn. On June 17, 2023, we were formally welcomed as a member church of the Diocese of the Southern Cross, under the leadership of Bishop Glenn Davies. On that day, I had the great privilege of being inducted as the Pastor of Faith Church Sunshine Coast. This was not just a new chapter in my ministry, but a testimony to God’s faithfulness and His hand at work in our midst.
Additionally, along with seven other former UCA ministers, I was granted formal recognition and licensing as a Presbyter (Minister of the Word and Sacraments) within the Diocese of the Southern Cross. This was a significant affirmation of our calling to continue preaching the Gospel and shepherding God’s people in a time of increasing cultural and spiritual opposition to biblical truth.
I come from the Kingdom of Tonga and have lived in Australia since 1977. My journey in faith and ministry has been shaped by my deep Tongan heritage, where faith, community, and service to Christ are central values. I am blessed to be married to Amelia Fihaki, my partner in life and ministry, and together we have one son, Kotoni Fihaki, who brings great joy to our lives.
Through every challenge and every blessing, we remain committed to the unchanging truth of God’s Word. Our mission as Faith Church Sunshine Coast is to proclaim the Gospel boldly, disciple believers faithfully, and stand firm in Christ, trusting that His power is made perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).
